After a long and hot Texas summer, the cooler temperatures have been more than pleasant. Who doesn’t love bundling up in a favorite sweater, drinking a warm seasonal Starbucks drink and thinking of all the wonderful holidays in the Fall?
We’ve made a list of some fall activities in the Dallas/Fort Worth area that are perfect for a cool afternoon. Whether you are looking for quality family time, a good scare for Halloween or a photo op, be sure to add these events to your weekend to-do list.
Ennis Autumn Daze
This free, all-day event in historic downtown Ennis has a variety of activities for the family. Join the fun on October 27 with pumpkin painting, a corn pit, a hay maze and more! Finish up the day watching some live entertainment featuring Pontiax and Def Leggend.
Denton’s Day of the Dead
A celebration of both Dia de los Muertos and Halloween, be sure not to miss this free, family-friendly event this Saturday, October 27. Stroll through the pumpkin patch with your little ones, dance with street performers, cheer on the coffin races and see the local Halloween musical, Cirque du Horror. This event-filled day is tremendous fun for all ages!
Friscovania at Toyota Stadium
Throw on your Halloween costume and make your way to Friscovania on October 27! Enjoy a tour of the National Soccer Hall of Fame and take your kids trick-or-treating on a haunted carnival concourse. Other activities at this event include games, a costume contest, a fashion show, dancing and live music. Tickets are $15, which can be bought online here.
Festival at the Switchyard
What is better than a day filled with good music? FREE good music! Located in downtown Carrollton, the 8th Annual Festival at the Switchyard provides a day of concerts featuring nationally-known headliners on November 3. Make sure to visit the beer garden, try something new from onsite food vendors and discover the shops in downtown. Children can also have their face painted and enjoy a laugh with children’s entertainers.
Autumn at the Arboretum
Named one of America’s Best Pumpkin Festivals by Architectural Digest, Autumn at the Arboretum is a classic favorite for Dallas residents and visitors. Featuring over 90,000 pumpkins, squash and gourds, the Pumpkin Village boasts a picturesque fall scenery. The celebration also includes more than 4,500 Chrysanthemums and over 150,000 stunning plants that will make it hard to put your camera down. This pumpkin patch is on display until November 21, so go once, twice or five times!
Six Flags Over Texas Fright Fest
Voted the Best Theme Park Halloween Event in Texas by USA TODAY, Fright Fest will be sure to spend a chill down your spine with 20 frightening attractions. Enjoy plenty of family-friendly fun during the daytime, but be sure to leave the little ones at home in the evening when the park is overtaken by extreme thrills and haunting chills.
DFW’s Premier Pumpkin Patches
This list would not be complete without sharing some of our favorite locations for a nostalgic pumpkin patch visit. There are a plethora of patches on display across the Dallas/Fort Worth area, so you won’t have to drive too far to find one. Be sure to go soon as many end on Halloween!
