Celebrating 4th of July Safely at Home

For communities across Dallas-Fort Worth, this 4th of July will look significantly different. We may not be able to gather publicly together, but that doesn’t mean you can’t celebrate Independence Day in a safe, memorable way. Here are our recommendations for making this holiday weekend an enjoyable one from home.

Red, White & Food

When you think of the 4th of July, what comes to your mind? Mouth-watering hamburgers, chargrilled vegetables, American flag-inspired desserts – it’s the food for us. Whether you are cooking for one or for your household, the day can still taste like Independence Day.

Popping open the grill is an American holiday staple for many. Cooking hamburgers, hotdogs, chicken, ribs and vegetables right on the grate can give your meal that delectable smoky flavor. Don’t have access to a grill this weekend? Bring the taste of the outdoors inside with a cast-iron grill pan.

What would Independence Day be without some “Star-Spangled” desserts? For those in your home in need of a creative outlet, there are plenty of fun, flag-inspired dessert recipes to try including fruit pizzas, white chocolate dipped strawberries or berry cheesecake bars. Feeling more traditional? Nothing beats the American staple of apple pie.

For food-spiration or 4th of July recipes, head over to Delish or Food Network.

This holiday weekend is also a great opportunity to support locally-owned restaurants and businesses. Whether you are planning a backyard barbecue or ordering food to-go, what better way to honor the American spirit than by helping keep our communities afloat.

The Room Where It Happens

In 2015, the Tony Award-winning musical Hamilton made its mark on not only on Broadway, but on America as a whole. This revolutionary show tells the story of Founding Father Alexander Hamilton through a unique blend of hip hop, R&B, rap, jazz and traditional-style show tunes with a diverse cast. As critics have applauded, Hamilton is a contemporary musical about “America then, as told by America now.”

Thanks to Disney’s new streaming service Disney+, you can finally be in “the room where it happens” on July 3rd. In order to watch this live Broadway recording of Hamilton, you must have a Disney+ account.

Note: Hamilton is rated PG-13 for language and some suggestive material.

American Spirit on screen

Looking to keep the patriotic movie marathon going this weekend? From sports stories to action adventure to sing-alongs, there’s something for everyone as you celebrate the American spirit with these family-friendly movies.

  • The Sandlot (PG – Coming-of-Age Comedy)
  • National Treasure (PG – Action, Adventure)
  • A League of Their Own (PG – Sports, Comedy/Drama)

Fireworks From Your Couch

Although many 4th of July festivals across DFW have been altered or cancelled, there are plenty of virtual options for those missing grand pyrotechnic displays. Close out your Independence Day in our nation’s capitol, throughout the Big Apple or the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex from your couch.

For a list of local firework shows near you, the Dallas Morning News has a comprehensive list here.

From our Judge Fite Family to yours, we wish you and your loved ones a safe and enjoyable 4th of July weekend across the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex.
